FROM FATHER TO SON
You were my mole, I was your rat, strolling down the river bank.
I’ll go that way, you would say, marching off upstream way,
I plundered downstream for the fight, to be the “top dog†to catch with might.
The hour would pass, this pool was good, playing the fish around that log.
I shouted, “I’ve got one, 10lbs I think!†“More like 6lbsâ€, the voice beside me said, “and to me it looks a little red!â€
“Not a scratch on mine.†I turned around. A 15lb Salmon held in his hand.
“It was a b******d to try and landâ€.
“I’m going to go and have it smoked, oh father you do look a little choked!â€
Oh well tomorrows another day for us to compete in our usual way,
Whether on the bank or in the clouds, we shall never be parted as I know your around.
You always out did me, even to the end, a Dad could never be so proud.
Love Always, Dad x
